Germany-based plantmaker SMS group has been awarded a major contract by japan''s Maruichi StainlessTube Co. Ltd., one of the country''s leading stainless steel tube producers. The company wil supply a fullyautomated production line for extruded stainless steel tubes as part of Maruichi''s new greenfield project inShimonoseki.
Construction of the new plant isexpected to be completed by theend of 2026, after which theinstallation of productionequipment will commence. Theplant is scheduled to startoperations during the 2027 fiscalyear once it obtains JlS(Japanese Industrial Standards)certification.
The new production line willfeature three fully electrifiedheating systems designed forhigh energy efficiency andtemperature accuracy. Theseinclude a horizontal preheatingsystem that warms the billets before processing, an intermediate heating system that provides flexible and precise temperature control beforeperforation punching, and a final heating system that ensures optimal billet conditions before extrusion. Byreplacing conventional gas-based systems with electric solutions, Maruichi''s new faclility will significantly reduceits carbon footprint and align with japan''s national goals for decarbonized industrial production.
