The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) gave two recommendations to the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), asking the USDOC to establish policies to regularly update the public guidelines to reflect changes regarding the Section 232 steel and aluminum tariff exclusion process. The USDOC agreed with both recommendations.
GAO said that the USDOC hasn’t evaluated and updated its public guidance since June 2019, so the public may not know the accurate information about how long the USDOC will spend to make a decision, which increases business uncertainty for those submitting and opposing requests.
