The number of employees affected will be less than 30, Revere Vice President of Human Resources Mr Tim Rosbrook said today. Mr Rosbrook said ¡°11 of the positions are currently open. In addition, some attrition is anticipated from retirements, plus Revere hopes to hire back employees as part of an increased focus on copper-related markets, which is our core competency.¡±
He said that ¡°We do anticipate as we go forward and grow the copper business. opportunities to rehire people who have to be laid off. The employee recalls could occur over time and it is difficult to say how soon it will happen.¡±
Revere has about 350 employees, including about 253 represented by United Auto Workers Local 2367.
The brass market represents 15 percent or less of Revere¡¯s overall business, while extruded products are less than 2 percent, Rosbrook said; extruded products are shaped through a die, and are used in various applications including elevator door tracks and fasteners for electrical conduits, for example, he explained.
The Revere company was founded by American patriot and entrepreneur Paul Revere in Massachusetts in 1801. It has been based in Rome since 1928.
