As at November 2015, national copper production reached 1,514,373 fine metric tons, Peru''s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) reported. This progress denoted a 37.43% increase, exceeding the total volume registered in 2014 (1,379,626 tonnes).

According to a statistical report issued by MEM, cooper production grew by 19.85% during the first eleven months of 2015 compared to the same period in 2014.

Mining Section General-Director at the MEM Marcos Villegas indicated that "Thanks to this production, Peru would be able to recover the spot as the world''s second largest cooper producing country. In 2016, this position will be consolidated through megaprojects such as Las Bambas, as well as Cerro Verde and Toquepala expansions entering into force.¡±

Likewise, Villegas explained that these important project operations contribute to the sustained growth of copper production. He said "Currently, Antamina is the country''s first cooper producer since it extracts one-quarter of the national production. Following 2015''s second half, production recovery represented an important factor for gross mining product, which has been accumulating nine months of consecutive growth.¡±

In November, silver (12.53%), lead (10.65%) and molybdenum (24.89%) productions saw increases as well.
