Reuters reported that London copper slipped towards three month lows after growth at China''s factories stumbled to the weakest in nearly six years, fuelling concerns over its metals demand.
Shanghai copper however found support as traders raised bets that China''s central bankers will inject fresh liquidity to buttress the economy against a property led slowdown.
Fundamentals;
1. Three month copper on the London Metal Exchange slipped by 0.6% to USD 6,798 per tonne by 0033 GMT after closing flat in the previous session.
2. It earlier fell as far as USD 6,784.75, towards support at USD 6,734 per tonne which was the low from Sept 11 and the weakest since June 20.
3. The most-traded November copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange climbed by 0.8% to CNY 48,770 per tonne.
4. China''s factory output grew at the weakest pace in nearly six years in August, while growth in other key sectors also cooled, raising fears the world''s second largest economy may be at risk of a sharp slowdown unless Beijing takes fresh stimulus measures.
5. US retail sales rose broadly in August and consumer sentiment hit a 14 month high in September, supporting expectations for sturdy economic growth in the Q3.
6. Hedge funds and money managers cut bullish futures and option bets in gold to their lowest in nearly three months and switched copper into a net short position for the first time since April.
