According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported a total of roughly 5.3 million tons of coking coal in 2021, falling by 2.7% compared to the previous year. The import value totaled around US$912 million, a year-on-year increase of 42%.
Among them, the top three import sources included Australia (around 3.28 million tons, a year-on-year surge of 262.6%), the US (around 900,000 tons, a year-on-year drop of 63.5%), and Canada (around 568,000 tons, a year-on-year decline of 49%).
In December 2021 alone, Turkey''s coking coal imports amounted to roughly 555,300 tons, up by 53.3% month on month but down by 2.2% year on year. The import value was roughly US$188 million tons, a month-on-month increase 27% and a year-on-year growth of 193%.
