Trafigura to build new mega copper, zinc, lead smelting complex in 2020

Trafigura and Modern Industrial Investment Holding Group jointly established new mega copper, zinc, and lead smelting complex, located in Ras Al-Khair. The smelter, named SmeltCo, will be invested US$2.8 billion in construction and was shared by both parties.
Also, the designated capacity was expected to have 400,000 tons of copper, 200,000 tons of zinc and 55,000 tons of lead. Its copper output capacity will be similar to the world¡¯s major smelters, including Sterlite Copper¡¯s Tuticorin and Chinalco¡¯s Ningde.
Upon completion of joint venture copper smelter, market demand for copper concentrate will certainly increase, and participants expected copper concentrate supply to tighten in 2020. |
