It is reported that First Quantum Minerals, a Canadian firm, announced to shut down its Ravensthorpe nickel mine operation in Western Australia in early October of this year, due to the nickel price remained weak for the long-term.
It would cost US$10 million to close the mine, and there would be addition US$5 million a year later. Therefore, the company has already started to consult with the labor and the contractors, in order to reduce the impact of the mine.
