The steel industry in Latin America is facing challenges in the value chain, the energy transition and the fight against climate change, which involve large investments to produce greener steel.
According to Máximo Vedoya, CEO of the Mexican steelmaker Ternium and also the president of the Latin American Steel Association (ALACERO), steel is the main actor in the fight against climate change and in the energy transition towards a decarbonized economy.
Vedoya specified that the large Latin American steel companies have launched plans and programs to reduce the carbon footprint by 2030 and continue on that path towards 2050, in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
In this sense, on November 17 and 18, Alacero Summit 2021 was held virtually by ALACERO, which gave its vision of the current situation and the upcoming challenges and opportunities for the steel sector.
