The Queensland Department of Environment and Science approved the project’s Groundwater Dependent Ecosystem Management Plan, which had previously won federal government approval. This plan outlines Adani’s proposed strategies to protect ecosystems that depend on groundwater, such as the Doongmabulla Springs wetland, which some experts have warned could be destroyed by the project. The plan’s approval at a state level removes the final legislative hurdle standing in the mine’s way.

On June 12, in response to a legal challenge by the Australian Conservation Foundation, the federal government conceded in the federal court that it failed to properly consider public submissions in passing judgement on Adani’s North Galilee Water Scheme. This scheme concerns Adani’s plans for taking water from the Suttor River to the east of the mine, which will be required for mining operations. The federal government will now need to reappraise this proposal. But the approval to take river water does not impact Adani’s ability to start mine construction.

Mr Lucas Dow, CEO Adani Mining, said “Adani Mining received advice today from the Queensland Government’s Department of Environment and Science that the Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems Management Plan has been finalised and approved. This is confirmation the plan complies with all regulatory conditions set by the Australian and State Governments, bringing to a close a two-year process of rigorous scientific inquiry, review and approvals. This includes relevant reviews by Australia’s pre-eminent scientific organisations CSIRO and Geoscience Australia. The finalisation of the GDEMP and Black-throated Finch Management Plan paves the way for construction to commence on the Carmichael Project and the delivery of much- needed jobs for regional Queenslanders. Moving forward, our priority is ensuring the safety of everyone who works on the project and that all construction activity meets the strict environmental requirements we have agreed to meet in our management plans and approvals. Over the coming days preparatory activities such as finalising contracts, mobilising equipment, recruitment and completing inductions will continue. These preparatory actions will enable us to then start construction activities including fencing, bridge and road upgrades, water management and civil earthworks on the mine site. The level of construction activity will then steadily increase over the coming weeks.”

The Queensland Resources Council has welcomed the approval from the Queensland Department of Environment and Science for the Adani Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems Management Plan. QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said the finalisation of the plan meant the project could now get underway and start delivering returns to Queensland. He said “Every investment in resources projects benefits all Queenslanders. Our resources sector employs more than 315,000 people, mainly in regional Queensland, and this year alone is returning AUD 5.2 billion to the state budget. All Queenslanders should welcome new investments in resources projects whether they’re coal, gas or other minerals. The Adani Carmichael mine is one of six in the Galilee Basin that could create tens of thousands of jobs in construction and operation and deliver billions of dollars in royalties over their working life span.” 热处理展-工业炉展-2020第二十一届广州国际热处理、工业炉展览会-中国效果最好的热处理工业炉展--巨浪展览 —The 21st China(Guangzhou)Int’l Heat Treatment, Industrial Furnace Exhibition -Heat Treatment exhibition, Heat Treatment expo, 2020 Heat Treatment exhibition, 2020 Heat Treatment expo, China Heat Treatment exhibition, China Heat Treatment expo, Industrial Furnace exhibition, Industrial Furnace expo, 2020 Industrial Furnace exhibition, 2020 Industrial Furnace expo, China Industrial Furnace exhibition, China Industrial Furnace expo
