Mexican AHMSA accused by Financial Intelligence Unit—The 20th China(Guangzhou)Int’l Heat Treatment, Industrial Furnace Exhibition

Altos Hornos de Mexico, S.A.B. de C.V. (AHMSA) is a Mexican steel mill with an annual production capacity of about 5.5 million tons, mainly producing hot-rolled coil, cold-rolled coil, tinplate and section steel. The steel mill is huge, with more than 20,000 employees and thousands of customers and suppliers.
Such a well-known steel mill has recently been accused by the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) of the Mexican Ministry of Finance of engaging in illegal domestic and transnational financial transactions. As a result, its bank assets were frozen by the federal government on May 27th.
AHMSA has since denied any involvement in illegal transactions and may sue to defend all its legal rights in the interests of its partners and employees.
The incident led to panic and anxiety among AHMSA''s scrap suppliers, causing the domestic delivery price of Mexican scrap to fall.
