India appeals its ruling on Japanese steel products to WTO—The 20th China(Guangzhou)Int’l Heat Treatment, Industrial Furnace Exhibition

The World Trade Organization (WTO) recently ruled Indian tariffs imposition on certain steel products from Japan.
India and Japan reached a comprehensive free trade agreement in 2011, but the Indian government imposed a temporary safeguard tariffs of 20% on certain steel imports from Japan in September 2015 to protect domestic producers. Then Japan filed a lawsuit to the WTO in December 2017 against the tariffs imposed by India, which has already ended in March 2018.
Although the tariff was cancelled, India appealed ruling on Japanese lawsuit to the WTO’s dispute panel as Indian ability to set protection measures might be restricted in the future if the ruling was determined as necessary.
