Italian plantmaker Danieli Technologies has reported that Oman-based steelmaker Jindal Steel Sohar hasestablished a new benchmark in monthly steelmaking output at its Oman plant, with liquid steel productionreaching 235,112 mt. Based on this performance, the facility''s annualized steel output now exceeds 2.5 milionmt.
The plantmaker emphasized that the recordperformance followed a recent technological upgrade ofthe 220-ton electric arc furnace, originally supplied andcommissioned by Danieli in 2014. The integration ofDanieli''s Q-MELT adaptive process control system hasenabled optimized furnace operation, contributing to anequipment availability rate of 96.5 percent, even whenscheduled shutdowns and process-related delays aretaken into account.
According to Danieli, the furnace is currently operatedwith a carefully optimized metallic charge mix, consisting
of 61 percent hot DRI, 37 percent cold DRl, and two percent hot briquetted iron (HBl). Under these conditionsthe furnace achieves a productivity level of 324 mt per hour, while maintaining a specific electrical energyconsumption of 493 kWh per metric ton.
