According to report, many companies of US industry groups, including Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association, the National Association of Egg Farmers and National Restaurant Association, wrote to Trump administration asking to stop the US tariffs on aluminum and steel. They said they have been hurt by the rising metal costs from US tariffs and also facing the retaliatory duties levied by certain countries such as China and Mexico.
China imposed tariffs on US'' main exported products since Trump imposed 25% and 10% duties on steel and aluminum imports in March 2018, and Mexico and Canada also imposed retaliatory duties after exemption expired in June 2018.
The US, Canada and Mexico just lately reached new agreement (USMCA) last year. However, the duties on aluminum and steel were still there.
The letter also said the farmers, ranchers and manufacturers were hurt by such mutual trade actions in steel dispute which might exceed the benefit from the USMCA. The letter asked the government to resolve the issue and make the North American trade start again and promote Congressional approval of the USMCA.
