Stratford Beacon Herald reported that for Mr Bernard Lewis, Vicwest Inc¡¯s senior vice president of operations, the future of the construction product manufacturer will forever be linked to the City of Stratford. Earlier this week, the company, which specializes in steel roofing, exterior trim and accents, announced the city had approved its site plan for an expansion of its Stratford facilities to accommodate the relocation of a steel mill from its plant in Oakville.

Mr Lewis said that ¡°We started this project in 2013, and we already moved a number of mills from the Oakville facility into Stratford. We¡¯ve got three operations in Ontario ¨C one at the Oakville facility, we¡¯ve got a (big trim plant) on Romeo in Stratford, and then we¡¯ve got a major rollforming facility (where employees roll steel using a process involving the continuous bending of a long strip of sheet metal into a desired cross-section) on Lorne Avenue. If we amalgamate all three of them, it improves our efficiencies.¡±

He added that ¡°We¡¯re a very seasonal type of business, and by doing it this way, where we might be busy on rollforming, I can move the people into that area. If I¡¯m busy on trim, I can move people into that area. If we¡¯re heavy on industrial decks or profiles, I can move people there. So it really improves the efficiency.¡±

By training its employees on every component of Vicwest¡¯s manufacturing processes, and by having all of those employees working in Stratford, Lewis said the company is trying to make better use of its manufacturing staff.

And in bringing the steel mill from Oakville to the company¡¯s rollforming plant on Lorne Avenue, Mr Lewis said the Stratford plant will have the capability of processing industrial orders made from heavy gauge steel, on top of the residential, agricultural and commercial orders already being filled here.

He added that ¡°We produce profiles. This is the cladding you see on the side of buildings, a roof profile ¨C there¡¯s many things we can do with it, even creating trims and accessories. The one thing Oakville produced was similar profiles, but with heavy gauge steel. And these are predominantly used in industrial facilities. Now we can take industrial, commercial, residential and agricultural orders a one-stop shop in Stratford.¡±

To accommodate the steel mill equipment, Vicwest¡¯s Lorne Avenue plant will be expanded from 83,000 square feet to 103,000 square feet. The expansion, part of what Vicwest calls the Stratford Centre of Excellence, is being designed for maximum efficiency and output through optimized floor space, increased mill operations speed through the use of new technology, more efficient loading and shipping, and the use of automated stackers for the steel mills. -The 19th Guangzhou Die-casting, Foundry & Industry Furnace Exhibition -Die-casting exhibition, Die-casting expo,2018 Die-casting exhibition, 2018 Die-casting expo, China Die-casting exhibition, China Die-casting expo, Foundry exhibition, Foundry expo, 2018 Foundry exhibition, 2018 Foundry expo, Industry Furnace exhibition, Industry Furnace expo, 2018 Industry Furnace exhibition, 2018 Industry Furnace expo, China Industry Furnace exhibition, China Industry Furnace expo
