Exports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) from the U.S. grew 6% to $336.1 million in May, boosted by strong demand from Mexico and the UK, Zepol reports.
The top five consumers of U.S. fastener exports in May were Mexico (up 12.8% month-to-month to $113.6 million); Canada (up 5.1% to $98.9 million); the UK (up 15.2% to $13.5 million); China (down 5.7% to $11.6 million); and Germany (down 10.7% to $9.2 million), according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Imports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) to the U.S. rose 3% to $418.1 million in May, boosted by product gains from China.
The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. in May were Taiwan (down 0.7% month-to-month to $124.5 million); China (up 19.8% to $104.8 million); Japan (down 8% to $54.7 million); Germany (up 1.4% to $28.8 million); and Canada (down 3% to $26 million), Zepol reports.
In the opening quarter of 2014, U.S. fastener exports and imports achieved modest growth, with exports rising 5.5% and imports up 7.25%.
