According to statistics, India imported around 467,000 tons of scrap in December last year, dropping by 23.3% compared to the same month a year ago. The decrease was due to the weak demand for steel in the Indian market and festive holidays in December.

Among them, the imports from the UAE accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 76,800 tons, a year-on-year drop of 36.6%. The US ranked second with roughly 38,500 tons, down by 35.3% year on year; followed by the UK’s 31,700 tons.

In 2021, India’s scrap imports amounted to approximately 5.13 million tons, sliding by 6.3% compared to 2020.
