Houston based Alamo Tube Company will develop a 200 employee pipe mill and finishing facility south of San Antonio to produce metal tubing used in oilfields including the nearby Eagle Ford Shale.
The USD 62.5 million facility will be located in Alamo Junction Rail Park, a 400 acre development in Elmendorf, just south of the Alamo City. The location will give Alamo access to both the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads for inbound and outbound shipments.
Equipment producer Abbey Fives Bronx will supply the state of the art high speed pipe rolling mill for the plant, which will produce 250,000 tons of oilfield tubing annually.
Energy companies use long, coiled metal tubes, typically feed from large spools, to pump chemicals deep into oil and gas wells.
The mill''s efficient design will allow Alamo Tube to compete with overseas suppliers, which currently supply around 80 percent of the tubing currently used in new US wells.
