LONDON -(Dow Jones)- Iran said Friday it has agreed with Turkey to build a EUR1 billion pipeline that may export natural gas to Europe, as Tehran clinches deals with neighbors despite mounting international sanctions.
The news come after Iran and Pakistan signed a contract in March to start the construction of another pipeline that could transport gas to India.
Speaking to the Iranian oil ministry''s Website Shana, Javad Oji, head of state-owned National Iranian Gas Export Co., said his company and Turkey''s ASB Co. had signed a contract Thursday to build a 660-kilometer pipeline crossing Turkey from Iran.
The route will be built over the three next years to export 50 to 60 million meters of gas per day, the official said.
The pipeline will enable NIGC to market its gas in Europe by paying a transit fee to Turkey, Oji was quoted as saying.
