Peru''s production of most major metals rose in October, while gold, iron ore and tin output declined. Copper production jumped 32.3% to 158,855 tonnes from 120,114 tonnes a year ago as higher output at Antamina and Chinalco''s Toromocho mines combined with the start-up of Hudbay Minerals'' US$1.7bn Constancia mine
Silver rose 16.7% to 11.8 Moz on gains at Antamina and the start-up of Hochschild Mining''s US$420mn Inmaculada mine, while zinc and lead both rose by over 10% to 123,868t and 26,179t, respectively, the ministry said.
Molybdenum gained 17% to 1,758 tonnes, while tungsten tripled to 12 tonnes on the restarted Pasto Bueno mine.
Gold output fell 13.3% to 375,631oz from 432,981oz a year ago, while that of tin at Minsur, the country''s only producer, slid 6% to 1,696t due to declining ore grades, according to the ministry.
Production dropped 25% to 497,247t at Peru''s only iron ore miner, Shougang Hierro Perú, due to a three week strike, the ministry said.
Minerals account for about 60% of Peru''s total exports. Peru is the world''s third largest copper, zinc and tin producer and No. 5 in gold.
