Naturgy Launches 3 Photovoltaic Solar Energy Complex in Castilla-La Mancha in Ciudad Real-The 21st China (Guangzhou ) Int’l Casting product Exhibition

Naturgy has launched the Picon I, Picon II and Picon III plants, located in the municipality of Porzuna and with an installed capacity of 50 MW each. Together, the three facilities will produce 310 GWh per year. The company has invested 100 million euros in this complex and its construction has generated 450 jobs. Three installations, with 50 MWp peak power and 151,452 modules each, which form a complex with a total power of 150 MW and 454,356 modules. Thus, the set of these 3 solar plants becomes the largest photovoltaic complex in Castilla-La Mancha. Together, the three photovoltaic plants will produce 310 GWh per year, which is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 88,500 homes, higher than the electrical consumption of the inhabitants of the nearby municipal terms such as Porzuna, Malagon, Picon and Piedrabuena.
These new infrastructures will allow the use of other sources of conventional electricity generation to be displaced and will contribute to reduce around 4.5 million tons of CO 2 during its useful life, in addition to other polluting emissions.
The construction of Picon I, Picon II and Picón III is part of the 250 MW awarded in the renewable power auctions of 2017, which has allowed the company to make a great commitment to this technology in Castilla-La Mancha, the Autonomous Community where Naturgy has registered the largest number of projects and photovoltaic power.
In addition to this solar complex, this year Naturgy has launched in La Real the photovoltaic solar plant of La Nava, located in the terms of Almodovar del Campo and Puertollano, with a power of 49 MW and an investment of more than 34 million euros, as well as the Carpio de Tajo plant (in El Carpio de Tajo, Toledo), with a power of 50 megawatts (MW) and an investment of 33 million euros.
Additionally, the company has another installation of the same technology in operation, Toledo PV, in La Puebla de Montalban (Toledo), the oldest in Europe, since it began operating in 1994 with a peak power of 1 MW and this year turns twenty-five years since its commissioning.
In addition, in Castilla-La Mancha, Naturgy has nine wind farms that generated 540GWh in 2018, which means covering the electrical needs of some 200,000 homes, and avoided throwing 170,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere
