The EU''s temporary defense measures were about to expire, and the EU was expected to announce new defense measures after the Christmas holiday. The current quota has almost been allocated.
Karl Tachelet, the head of the European Steel Association (Eurofer), suggested that import quotas should be set up by the state as a substitute for the current “first-come-first-win” quota.
The Turkish and Russian resources have entered the European market in large quantities, an increase of 59% year-on-year. As of December 12th, the wire rod import quota remained at 39,000 tons (3.8%); the remaining rebar quota was 91,000 tons (below 10%). In November, the EU imported an average of 4,900 tons of rebar and 19,000 tons of raw materials per day, which was estimated to exceed 105,000 tons.
After the remaining quota was less than 10%, the importers began to worry about the 25% tariff. At this stage, the EU''s temporary defense measures had around 50 days left, and the importers were nervous about it.
