According to the report released by the International Copper Study Group (ICSG), global copper output was expected to keep flat compared to that in 2018, and the output in 2020 will hike by 1.9% as some mine expansion projects were completed and put into production, as well as the recovery of production in Indonesia.
However, the increase of global refined copper output shrank to 1.2% due to the impact by limited supply of copper concentrate.
As for consumption, global refined copper consumption (excluding China) will increase by 1.7% in 2019 and 2% in 2020, which was mainly due to a rise in consumption from the Middle East, India and some Asian countries.
Therefore, the ICSG forecasted that the global refined copper will be in a short supply of 190,000 tons and 250,000 tons in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
