KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. (KGHM), the top second copper producer in Poland, broke its production record in the first quarter this year due to the increased production at its European and North American operations.
The miner posted revenue going up about PLN 1.2 billion. This great performance of revenue was because of a higher volume of sales of copper and silver and the favorable exchange rate. This company would continue to have a great performance due to the great growth from Sierra. Sierra would continue to produce more copper than previously planned this year.
The operation was a joint venture between KGHM and Japan''s Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (SMM). In 2018 KGHM got the environmental approval for a US$2 billion expansion and upgrading for the mine. It would thus extend its productive life by 21 years.
