Avalon Precision Metalsmiths is closing its Euclid, Ohio plant. The company formed earlier this year when two Cleveland-area companies, Avalon Castings and Precision Metalsmiths, merged.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Avalon CEO Doug Ciabotti said the location was outdated, neglected and sales had been declining for the past 10 years due to equipment neglect and an unfocused approach to the marketplace.
"It was an unfortunate decision, but one that was forced upon us by external influences," Ciabotti said. The company is encouraging employees to apply for open positions at its facility 15 minutes from Euclid. It has three plants and a total of approximately 300 employees.
Avalon Precision Metalsmiths is an investment caster serving pump and valve customers such as Parker Hannifin, Caterpillar and Boeing.
