Indian steel minister Chaudhary Birender said steel companies from South Korea and Japan were interested in investing in high-value-added products in India. The ministry is currently in talks with South Korean POSCO and Hyundai Steel to explore the possibility of investing in high-value-added steel products in India.
Meanwhile, the project of joint ventures between these foreign companies and Indian state-owned steel companies Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) were also discussed.
India should seek more technical support by increasing the added value of its products, reduce its dependence on imports of special steel and form joint ventures with leading global companies to introduce production technologies for automotive steel and other special steel products.
