Thomas Dudley has installed a brand new Kaisen Pouring line at its Duport Foundry.
The Kaisen project is the latest development in an ongoing improvement programme that has been implemented since Thomas Dudley acquired the West Midlands foundry in 2014.
This new facility increases flexibility and allows smaller batch sizes to be cost-effectively produced. It also offers rapid grade changes (several grades can be cast in each shift) in batch sizes as small as 500Kg.
The upgrade further enhances the business benefits delivered to customers with improved quality, even shorter lead times and greater cost effectiveness.
Mick Cramphorn, Foundry Director said: ¡°This addition offers a greater choice of grades to include SiMo, D2, D5, and all grades of ADI, as well as supporting rapid prototyping with concept to product in days rather than weeks. We can offer design, tool manufacture and production all in-house and quicker than any other European Foundry.
¡°Furthermore, we can sample several times in one day if required, to optimise casting integrity. The ladles poured in by the operator on the line, helps prevent overspill and optimises ductile quality. We have stable temperature due to the high insulating lining and this will improve yield from lower scrap and ability to top up only to fill the level.¡±
Duport¡¯s new Kaisen Pouring line marks a significant change in how foundries are adapting to new machinery and technology. It presents environmental improvements as it offers no holding electricity which further supports Thomas Dudley¡¯s commitment to service and quality.
The Thomas Dudley (Duport) site is located a short distance from the company¡¯s head office based in Dudley, and specialises in manufacturing grey and ductile iron castings up to 90Kg in weight.
