Rio Tinto, a leading global mining company, worked with local companies to develop the Koodaideri iron ore project in the Pilbara region, Western Australia.
Rio Tinto owned a 100% share of this project, with a total investment of US$2.6 billion. It obtained a mining license in November last year and started the construction in the first half of this year.
The project had an annual production capacity of 43 million tons of iron ore and the cooperation with local companies amounted to AUD60 million. The Koodaideri mine was expected to start the production at the end of 2021.
Rio Tinto stated that the most important work currently was led by White Springs, which supplied more than 600,000 tons of track ballast for the railway construction of Koodaideri mine.
Rio Tinto''s cooperation contract with local companies also included the establishment of the Bea Bea Creek quarry, which would become the first quarry owned and operated in Western Australia.
