heat treat story which covers two continents, North America and Asia.—The 17th China(Guangzhou)Int’l Heat Treatment,Industrial Furnace Exhibition
10/28/2015  Heat Treatment,Industrial Furnace expo
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We''re going to tell you a rather interesting heat treat story which covers two continents, North America and Asia. A few years back a joint venture was set up in Elgin, Indiana to produce very large gears for the windmill industry. There seems to have been a number of companies involved in this venture so take your pick about whether you want to say GE, Flender or Siemens. This was of course one of a number of companies that decided that wind energy was the road to riches, as it turns out the whole thing was rather a bust and at the end of the day most of these operations have switched gears (no pun intended). This location invested big dollars and this included the heat treating department which consisted of a number of very large Aichelin pit furnaces which represented a multi million dollar investment.

The furnaces have languished on the market for probably close to two years now mainly because it is an extremely limited market for furnaces this size. Update time. It appears the equipment has sold with the bulk of it being bought by Doskan Heat Treat in Ankara, Turkey with the remainder going to NC. Doskan is one of the largest commercial heat treaters in Turkey and with the addition of these furnaces the company will have an enormous capacity. Speaking of used equipment available we see that Plymouth Tube in East Troy, WI is auctioning off some of their equipment December of this year. While the heat treating"stuff" is more geared to annealing it might be of interest to some heat treaters out there. We might as well mention that November 4th a manufacturer in Rural Hall, NC is having an auction and included is a big electrically heated Flynn & Dreffein pit temper furnace which appears to be in not bad shape.

Auto parts supplier and captive heat treater Kamax in Mayfield Township, Michigan had a fire in a heat treat furnace just four days ago. Not a big deal, a bit of damage, a bit of smoke with production slowed down and that was about it. We don''t imagine there is such a thing as a good fire but if there is this was a good fire. We mentioned how bolt supplier Dokka Fasteners in Michigan was closing by the end of the year with all of the very impressive heat treating equipment soon to be available (or maybe available). It is sad to say the last load in the Ipsen Batch IQ furnaces was run just last week. Commercial heat treater Parker Trutec in Urbana, Ohio is growing yet again which might mean more heat treat equipment and certainly means more electroplating.
