Auto Parts supplier and captive heat treater SONA in Selma—The 18th China(Guangzhou)Int’l Heat Treatment, Industrial Furnace Exhibition

Auto Parts supplier and captive heat treater SONA in Selma, NC very unexpectedly announced they will be closing their facility in NC effective September 18th. The company has over 200 employees and is a supplier to companies such as General Motors. This plant was in the news back in 2013 when the heat treating area suffered a devastating fire which destroyed most of the department. We will provide updates as we learn them. Commercial heat treater Thermal Technologies in Chatsworth, California is pretty busy these days. They have completed the closure of their Sun Valley location and all of the equipment has been upgraded for their plant in Chatsworth will increased capacity on the way. The photo below shows one of the upgraded furnaces. Recently we gave you an update to some changes at bearing manufacturer and captive heat treater SKF. At the time we told you how SKF had purchased Kaydon Bearing and Seal in Baltimore, MD but that this location was to close with all operations moving to the Hanover, PA plant which has a very impressive heat treating department. The Hanover plant and the heat treating equipment will remain but over the course of the next two years the bearing manufacturing will be transferred to an SKF plant in Gaineville, Georgia and a location in Sweden both of which do heat treating in house. Vacuum furnace builderBMI in France send us this photo of a visit they recently received from a delegation of China Heat Treatment Association members. It was composed of some major heat treater companies from various regions of China mainland. Thanks to our extensive experience of the local Chinese market, especially in aeronautics, we have introduced the delegation to our range of vacuum furnaces, specifically suited to the Chinese needs and technical requirements. In people news we see that the new Heat Treatment Australia facility in the LA area of California now has a General Manager by the name of Mitch Fahrney. Proving yet again that nobody ever leaves the heat treating industry Mitch was formerly involved with captive heat treater Seacast in Washington state. Now to contradict this we should say that Larry Midla who has spent his entire life in the industry including several years owning his own commercial heat treat Low County Heat Treat in the Carolinas has left the industry to teach public school math in SC which is quite a change of direction. —The 18th China(Guangzhou)Int’l Heat Treatment, Industrial Furnace Exhibition
