According to report, AK Steel may report its loss for Q1 about 60~67 million due to the blast furnace outages and rising energy costs on bad weather.
The company reports its natural gas and electricity costs increased $30 million from Q4 last year. The company’s late February unintended outage at its Ashland works cost around US$18 million. Planned outage was forwarded from Q1 and cost around US$29 million.
AK also mentioned the Q1 shipments will be down about 10~12% from last year to 1.25~1.275 million shot tons, even the average price increased by 6% to US$1,031/short ton.
The final result of the full earnings will be released on April 22.
