According to the report, the Mexican chief diplomat in the US expected that once the updated North American trade agreement had been signed and following would be able to kick off the trade war due to 232 tariffs on Mexican steel and aluminum and initiate the relevant cancellation procedures.

Correspondingly, the ambassador on Mexican on behave of placing in the US, Gerónimo Gutiérrez, mentioned that he expected the US President Donald Trump to meet with Mexican President Peña Nieto and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G20 summit which will be held from November 30th to December 1st, and a new North American trade agreement could be signed after the meeting.

The Trump government aimed to sign the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) before Mexican President Peña Nieto resigned at the end of November. Hopefully the steel and aluminum tariff issues will be resolved by then.
