It was just last Thursday that the Design Awards of Excellence in Steel Construction were held at the Palace Convention Center, in Laval, Quebec. They are awarded annually by the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction rewarding teams that present unique steel projects. It was a memorable evening with dinner, music and participation prizes. The master of ceremonies was Senator Jacques Demers, a world known Quebec sports personality. The guests of honor were Yvon Lambert, former number 11 of the Montreal Canadians and winner of four Stanley Cups and hockey legend Chris Nilan.
Hellen Christodoulou directrice régional of the CISC-Quebec said that "The CICA promotes the use and advantages of steel in construction, provides added value to construction and design professionals and companies and meets the needs of its members and the industry, with education and training, research and development, codes and standards , certification and defense of sectorial interests.”
Dr Christodoulou added that "The institute is the Canadian voice of the steel construction industry. It provides leadership that promotes design and construction which combines efficiency, quality and innovation. We aim to understand customer needs, develop a profile of the steel industry and our members, and improve communication and information sharing. Today, consumers are demanding assurances on the safety and quality of products and services they buy. In this era of increasing globalization, standards, but also the assurance of compliance with these standards, are critical more than ever.”
The Design Awards of Excellence in Steel Construction Gala is a unique opportunity for us to recognize the outstanding work of the project teams. Professionals who appropriate steel in the right place by taking advantage of large span capabilities, durability and beauty. This year, 13 Awards were presented (in nine categories).
