The crane will be installed at Nucor’s Kankakee facility in Illinois, which produces rebar and merchant bar products, such as rounds, flats and angles.
The new crane has a 70-foot span and 460 VAC power supply. It conforms with the Crane Manufacturers Association of America’s duty classification F, covering continuous severe service, reserved for top riding bridge and gantry type multiple girder electric overhead travelling (EOT) cranes.
AWC recently supplied Nucor’s Jewett operations in Texas with two cranes, having already installed additional units across the steelmaker’s ‘expansive operations’. The latest Jewett crane will be installed over a two-week period in August 2017 and will be manufactured ‘in the coming weeks’.
Kevin Beavers of AWC said that the company’s partnership was growing every year. “It’s a relationship we value very highly,” he said, adding that the latest order will require extensive custom engineering and will demonstrate the crane manufacturer’s ability to meet the requirements ‘of the most demanding lifting applications’.
