The United Kingdom imported total 1,268,000 tonnes of iron ore in May at US$112.6/tonne on average. As a result, the cumulative imports during January-May 2014 amounted to 4.83 million tonnes with an increase of 2.6% from the same period of the previous year when 4.71 million tonnes was imported. The average import price during the period was US$118.8, down US$9.6 (7.5%) from the corresponding period of the prior year when iron ore was imported avragely at US$128.4/tonne.
Looking at the imports by main source during January-June, 2,929,000 tonnes was imported from Brazil, accounting for 61% of the total, 809,000 tonnes from Russia, making up 17% and 631,000 tonnes from South Africa, constituting 13% in that order.
