India’s Ministry of Steel has called for reducing steel imports in the oil and gas industry and increasing the use of domestic steel.
Indian petroleum, gas, and steel minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, said in a Web conferencing that domestic steel producers have fully met the local demand of the steel industry and should also meet the needs of oil refineries and pipelines.
The Indian government consultant Engineers India Limited (EIL) expected that the domestic oil and gas industry would consume about 50 million tons of steel products in the next 15 years, which would provide more demand for domestic steel mills.
However, although India has become the world’s second-largest steel producer, the country still depends on imports for specific steel products required by the oil and gas industry.
