Tex reported that POSCO was about to start its negotiations on shipbuilding steel plates for shipbuilding for Jan-Jun 2019 shipments with South Korean shipbuilders and could become price setter for 2019 breaking the tradition of price setting by Japanese steel mills, including in 2018, which was followed by POSCO.
Throughout 2018, South Korean shipbuilders agreed on markup of KRW 50,000 (USD 44) in the first half and then that of KRW 60,000-70,000 (USD 53-62) for the second half
South Korean shipbuilders are expected to oppose POSCO''s markup based on low ship prices and the financial difficulties they face. The attention is now on how POSCO would rebuff such opposition and materialize its planned markup.
