A June 12 fire caused $100,000 in damage to Rocknel Fastener Corp. in Rockford, IL, the Rockford Register Star reports.
"Damage was limited to an air compressor unit and the surrounding electrical system," writes Corina Curry of the Star. "The cause of the fire was a malfunctioning air compressor."
Firefighters responding around 1 p.m. found "light smoke" inside the structure, but the building''s sprinkler system had already extinguished the fire, according to the Star. All 115 employees were evacuated before the fire department arrived.
Founded in 1989 as a joint venture between American and Japanese companies, Rocknel manufactures cold formed automotive and commercial fasteners. Japan-based Meira Inc. acquired Rocknel in 1998, and the wholly owned Meira subsidiary operates two facilities totaling 860,000 sq ft at 5319 11th St. in Rockford.
