Courier Press reported that members of the local United Steelworkers union have unanimously voted to authorize a labor strike against Alcoa, according to a release from the union. The action does not call for an immediate strike but gives union leaders the authority to invoke a work stoppage at a later date. According to a news release from USW, about 800 members of Local 104 have been working under a contract that expired on May 15, but that contract was extended to allow continuing negotiations.

Local 104 President Chris Horn has said the union hopes to resolve the contract issues without resorting to a work stoppage. However, with a unanimous vote authorizing a strike, it is obvious the union is willing to consider other options, he said.

Mr Horn said in the statement that "We are organized and mobilized and will not allow Alcoa to bully us into accepting anything less than the fair contracts we have earned and deserve. These are jobs worth fighting for, and we intend to keep it that way." 紧固件展-2019第二十届广州国际紧固件及设备展览会-巨浪展览 -The 20th China (Guangzhou)Intl Fastener & Equipment Exhibition - Fastener exhibition,2019 Fastener exhibition, China Fastener exhibition, Guangzhou Fastener exhibition, 2019 Fastener expo, China Fastener expo, Guangzhou Fastener expo

USW International considers some of Alcoa''s demands to be "excessive and unnecessary," according to the release.

USW International Vice President Tom Conway said that "USW members have dedicated years of hard work and personal sacrifice to keep these facilities operating efficiently and profitably. Corporate executives and shareholders are reaping the benefits while Alcoa continues to demand concessions too broad and too deep for our members and their families to absorb.
