Canadian tariffs on carbon steel plates & stainless steel wires impact Taiwanese exporting-The 20th China(Guangzhou)Int'l Stainless Steel Industry Exhibition

The Department of Finance Canada has announced on May 10th to conduct the terminal safeguarding measures on imported carbon steel plates and stainless steel wires from foreign countries.
The global import quota was divided into three phases from May 13th, 2019 to October 24th, 2021, excluding origins in the United States, Chile, Mexico, Israel, South Korea and some countries which have signed the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Canada.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs Taiwan explained that the Canadian safeguard measure has eliminated FTA countries, so Taiwanese competitiveness of exporting the above products to Canada was decreased. Therefore, the ministry will continue to concern the management method of tariff quotas with the relevant associations in order to protect some exporters'' benefit.
