Since last year, South Korean pre-painted steel suppliers performed slack continuously, especially for the end-usage of household appliances.
In the trend of South Korean home appliance market in recent years, most home appliance manufacturers turned to overseas production due to poor domestic sales, resulting in shrinking domestic demand and more intense competition.
Under such sluggish revenue performance, some steel mills had to lay off staff and adjust their organizational structure for cost recovery. Besides, the cost of related raw materials has been increased, but the home appliance industry was reluctant to raise purchasing price.
If this condition got worse, the loss of steel mills who supplied pre-painted steel certainly will continue expanding. Steel mills stressed that for new season offer, as substrate price has been fallen, it was bound to be required to cut prices further. However, if the price was not raised, steel mills'' income will be more difficult to improve.
