Network Rail to Reduce Rail Buying from British Steel by 18%-2020 China(Guangzhou) Int’l Laser Equipment and Sheet Metal Industry Exhibition

Owner and infrastructure manager of most of the rail network in England Network Rail has been accused of undermining confidence in British Steel by reducing the amount of track it buys from the ailing manufacturer. Mr Ben Houchen, Conservative mayor of Tees Valley, said “We must do all we can to protect this great British business and Network Rail can do that by continuing to have full confidence in British Steel as a supplier.”
Network Rail has been drawing up contingency plans to protect itself if a buyer is not found for British Steel and wrote to the Official Receiver last week proposing to cut the amount of steel it orders from British Steel in the next financial year by up to 18%
However, a Network Rail spokesman said “We continue to give extensive support and commitment to British Steel. ''We have offered to extend our current contract with the company and have proposed a significant minimum volume of orders.”
