India plans to reduce special steel imports-2019 China(Guangzhou) Int’l Laser Equipment and Sheet Metal Industry Exhibition

According to the report, Indian steel production amounted to about 103 million tons during 2017 to 2018.
However, Although India was the second biggest steel producer in the world, its special steel products still depending on imports. Minister of State for Steel, Vishnu Deo Sai said that India should produce more special spec steel such as electrical grade and auto grade steel locally to reduce relying on imports. Actually SAIL and Arcelor Mittal had a Joint Venture (JV) for building an automotive steel mill.
Tata Steel planned to cooperate with Thyssenkrupp on developing electrical steels section. Furthermore, India government also established Steel Research & Technology Mission of India (SRTMI) to take responsible for Research & Development projects for steel improvement.
