Dongkuk Steel Mill rolls out first seismic-proof coil steel-2019 China(Guangzhou) Int’l Laser Equipment and Sheet Metal Industry Exhibition

Pulse News reported that South Korea’s Dongkuk Steel Mill Co has completed development of the country’s first seismic-proof reinforcing steel bar in coil and will launch commercial production this month. Seismic-proof bar in coil is a new concept of reinforcing steel that integrates high yield strength of earthquake-proof reinforcing bar and efficient machinability of coil reinforcing steel. Until now, it had been a challenge for steelmakers to apply equal ductility that measures ability to undergo deformation to long steel bar in coil, which is why they only produced straight line seismic-proof reinforcing steel. Dongkuk Steel Mill, however, applied materials of various elements and underwent parts test to successfully develop seismic-proof reinforcing steel in coil.
Compared to straight line seismic-proof reinforcing steel, seismic-proof bar in coil allows steelmakers to process steel more efficiently and do not require additional facility. Also, they are easier to load up and save distribution cost.
An unnamed official from Dongkuk Steel Mill said that the market for seismic-proof steel has been growing every year.
