Taiwan strives to seek exemption from US steel tariffs- The 19th China（Guangzhou）Int’l Sheet metal machinery,Forging, Stamping and Setting Equipment Exhibition

The US would impose tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, and Taiwan’s government officials and representatives from the domestic steel industry departed for the US to seek negotiations with the US government for exemption from steel tariffs. The industry believed that Taiwan’s steel products would not be a cause of the US national security issue.
The Minister without Portfolio of Executive Yuan John Deng led the delegation to the US to negotiate for exemptions last Sunday. The steel industry believed that the US imposed the tariffs for steel and aluminum imports, mainly for the consideration of national security, and it should strive to increase the discussion on Taiwan’s steel products that would not cause the problem for the US national security.
Whether they could succeed in obtaining immunity or not, the steel industry stated that “it can''t be judged, but there is an opportunity if we try our best to seek for exemptions.”
However, if they could obtain more favorable conditions than other countries, and it did not rule out that it would help enhance the competitive advantages of Taiwan’s steel industry and allow the steel industry to turn the crisis into a turning point.
